In a country where agriculture is synonymous with tradition, a family from Cordoba managed to transform an agricultural challenge into an innovative and sustainable solution. ECOCAIO , a machine designed to combat weeds without agrochemicals or damaging the soil, is marking a before and after in agroecological production.

This tool was born in Elena, Cordoba , as a response to one of the most common problems in the field: weed control. But what differentiates ECOCAIO from other solutions is its ability to eliminate weeds without altering the soil microbiology nor resort to chemicals.
A design thought for the producer
The machine is adapted to the producer's tractor (requires a minimum of 100 hp) and has a system of oscillating blades that cut weeds between the furrows. Its precision allows working close to the plants without compromising their development, making it an ideal ally for organic and agroecological crops.
“It is a mower that not only protects the soil, but also fosters a deeper connection with the earth,” he explains. Eugenia Martina , the accountant who led this family project.
From the metalworking industry to the countryside: The story behind ECOCAIO

The path to this innovation began when Eugenia decided to leave her job at a metalworking company in Río Cuarto to dedicate herself to agricultural production. Her first step was to venture into the production of Soy milanesas , a project that allowed him to explore food production and marketing circuits.
It was in 2018, after attending a talk on extensive crops at the University of Río Cuarto, when she decided to make a radical change: adopt agroecological practices. Together with her husband, she joined a group of INTA specialized in chemical-free production, where they acquired the necessary knowledge to implement this transition in their fields.
“This way of producing requires more human presence, understanding the microbiology of the lot and working with biological corridors,” says Eugenia.
The role of the family in the success of the project
The name ECOCAIO has a special meaning: “Caio” is what Eugenia calls her father, and “eco” represents her commitment to the ecological. This project not only unites technology and sustainability, but also an entire family.
Her husband, passionate about the countryside, and her son, who collaborated on the design, were key players in the development of the machine. “One of the main challenges in organic production is weed control. We are always looking for mechanical alternatives because we do not use chemicals. ECOCAIO was born from that search,” says Eugenia.
A product made in Argentina, designed for the world

Since its launch, ECOCAIO has captured the attention of producers and experts. The machine already has patent for invention in both Argentina and the United States and has been recognized at important fairs, such as the Rural Expo of Jesus Maria 2024 , where they achieved their first sale.
In addition, the INTA The company has tested the machine in different agricultural trials, highlighting its effectiveness in managing resistant weeds. With a modular design that can be adapted to different types of crops and tractors, ECOCAIO is positioning itself as a practical and accessible solution for producers looking for sustainable alternatives.
A legacy for future generations
With components manufactured locally in Elena, except for the imported hydraulic system, ECOCAIO is an example of how innovation can emerge from rural communities. “You don’t have to go to Harvard to have a good idea,” Eugenia reflects proudly.
This project not only seeks to transform agriculture, but also to inspire other families to opt for more environmentally friendly practices. “The joy of seeing insects and life in the soil is incomparable. It is a change that is worthwhile,” he concludes.
With ECOCAIO, the Martina family demonstrates that passion, teamwork and commitment to the planet can lead to solutions that transcend borders. Will this be the beginning of a new era in the Argentine countryside?
